sigscape studio
sigscape studio is the workbench at sigscape.org. You add files or open an example, choose a function, and read the result on the canvas. Some functions compute in the page: plotting spectra, comparing exposures, curating SigMA clusters. The four packages that do real computing, MuTopia, MuSiCal, Tau and SigMA2, run through the local runner: sigscape-daemon, one program on your own computer.
What runs where
| Part | Where it runs | What it does | |---|---|---| | The studio | your browser | draws, binds records to functions, keeps your tabs and selections | | sigscape-daemon | your computer | installs each package once, runs it on your files, keeps every run in a workspace folder | | The packages | inside the daemon's environments | MuTopia in a container, MuSiCal and SigMA2 in Python environments, Tau through pixi |
Nothing is uploaded to sigscape.org. The page talks to the daemon on 127.0.0.1 with a token the daemon makes each time it starts.
The three steps
- Install the runner: one command, or one download.
- Connect: start it with
--openand the studio opens connected. - Run a tool: select records, open a function, press Run.
Every run is kept as a checkpoint, labeled by its parameters, and can be exported as a zip: see Runs, checkpoints, export. When a new release of the daemon is out, the studio says so in its footer and updates the daemon in place: see Updates and releases.
Where the runner shows
The left end of the studio's status bar is the runner: a dot and a word. No runner, Runner running 0.2.0, Runner stopped, Runner outdated. Click it for the workspace, the runs it holds, the tools it offers, updates, restart and its log. A tool that cannot run says why beside its Run button, in the same words, with the way in.
